To Google or not to Google.

google-dr-evil.jpgWith the ever-increasing power of Google can they live up to their company motto of “Don’t be Evil”? Below the simple search engine surface of the Google Corporation is a complex network of applications and services that puts some experts on edge. Google has big plans that includes opening a free online library, free Internet access worldwide via satellites and wifi, and there are even rumors of a Google Operating System to rival Microsoft and Apple. When you add in all of these new multimedia fields with the services Google already offers like Youtube, it’s easy to see why people are worried. Right now it is impossible for Google to be a monopoly. Almost all of its services are free therefore they can’t raise prices and there is no way for Google to block access to competition. But Google’s intentions once it is a key player in almost all aspects of communication need to be questioned…we should also ask if an internet controlled by Google would be bad. In my opinion Google has always offered services with the mindset of the user and has lived up to its “Don’t be Evil” motto. I’m sure there are people who would disagree but the various lawsuits Google has been involved in hasn’t stopped them yet.

  3. Im not too sure what too think. Google has always offered the best search engine there is, and they are always reliable. I also cant see any downsides to free internet access worldwide either. A free online library though?
    Isn’t that illegal?

  6. The online library is going to have access to everything out of copywrite (old books) and offer links to a place where you can buy the newer books so nope its not illegal.

  7. Go Google, it’s your birthday. Go Google, it’s your birthday. (Okay, not really.)

Interesting article. Joe raises some good points. Looks to me like Google is just trying to level the playing field. How can free internet access be a bad thing?
